Description

PYTHIA classification toolbox for SPM exposes almost all of the functions of the powerful Weka Machine Learning Software in a way that is familiar to the users of highly renowned Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) Software from University College London (UCL). Usage of PYTHIA is a seamless and natural extension of your SPM analysis. All you have to do is provide your experimental design (SPM.mat) file and set three basic parameters – data labels, classifier type (e.g. SVM, decision trees, etc.) and cross-validation type to get the software running. PYTHIA is accessed using SPM’s Batch Editor and provides contextual help for every adjustable option. All of this comprises a really user-friendly experience.

Why the name?

The Pythia (pronounced /ˈpɪθiə/ or /ˈpaɪθiə/, Greek: Πυθία ), commonly known as the Oracle of Delphi, was the priestess at the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, located on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. The Pythia was widely credited for her prophecies inspired by Apollo.

We all know the dreaded moment when the classifier trained on our fantastic dataset turns out to have chance level accuracy. In those moments I think it would be nice to have my classifier inspired by Apollo as well…

The License

Similarly to SPM and Weka, PYTHIA is licensed under the GNU GPL license, more precisely GPLv3. It means that PYTHIA toolbox is Free Software and you can use it in whatever way you see fit as long as the liberal conditions of the license are met.
